Tutoring and services
Niccolò Cusano University offers orientation and didactic-disciplinary tutoring services throughout the duration of the course of study.
The figures in charge of these functions are the Didactic Tutors and the Disciplinary Tutors, professionals who constantly look after the relationship with students, through support in the management and organisation of the university course, interaction with teachers and approach to examinations. They are skilled in creating closer contacts with the university environment and in identifying the student’s needs to facilitate the learning process.
How to use tutoring
Academic Tutors can be reached at the secretariats of the degree course to which they belong and can be contacted by e-mail.
Disciplinary Tutors can be contacted directly via platform messaging (message area – course selection – recipient).
The aim is to request information of a didactic nature and to organise a series of periodic contacts (in presence and by videoconference) in order to support and direct the student in the event of disciplinary and psychological/motivational needs.
Didactic Tutor
The role of didactic tutor provides an interface function between students and the Course of Study. The Tutor is a person who is highly qualified in the subject and who offers a student tutoring and support service. The tutor is fully familiar with the course of study assigned to him/her and, with professionalism and competence, guides students in the search for the most suitable study method.
Basic Orientation Meeting
One of the functions carried out by the Academic Tutors is the Basic Orientation Meeting (IOB), through which the student can understand how the University works.
In particular, this phase illustrates
- the functioning of the e-learning platform, to access study materials and asynchronous or videoconference lessons;
- the methods and timetable for following the lessons in presence at the University Campus;
- the tools through which to contact Teachers and Disciplinary Tutors;
- the environments where teaching and research activities are carried out, e.g. classrooms, laboratories and library;
- the availability, at the Campus, of reception, catering and socialisation services, including the Unicusano “Residence” service, canteen-bar, shuttle bus and sports and recreational facilities.
Planning
The Didactic Tutor provides the student with a study plan planning that takes into account the student’s needs.
Planning is an initial phase in which the path of possible examinations that the student will take during his university career is outlined. In this phase, the Academic Tutor indicates the list of Disciplinary Tutors that the student should contact via the platform messaging system, before approaching the study of each subject in order to receive useful advice for setting up an effective study method.
Disciplinary Tutor
Each student will be able to interact with a Disciplinary Tutor, competent in the content of the course to which they are assigned. This is a reference figure who assists the teacher by acting as a bridge with the students in order to streamline and facilitate discussion. It is possible to contact the Tutor of the subject you are studying, or intend to prepare, via the teaching platform. All you need to do is access your personal area to write a message in order to be informed of how you are managing your study and teaching activities.
Study method
Following planning with the Didactic Tutor, the student then contacts the Disciplinary Tutor with whom he/she works out the study method best suited to his/her individual characteristics. This defines the stages of the study process useful for achieving the most serene, expeditious, appropriate and effective learning of the subjects possible.
The criterion adopted by the team of Disciplinary Tutors is based on the assumption that a correct study method must be ‘organised’ and ‘functional’. In other words, a reasoned and balanced study, which takes into account the importance of being consistent, thus enabling solid and gradual learning.
Motivational support
The Disciplinary Tutoring Service also provides motivational support for studying.
In the course of study it is possible to encounter obstacles, which may lead the student to feel discouraged, pushing him or her away from the main objective. The intervention of the Disciplinary Tutor helps to metabolise failures, learning how to improve and develop new skills.
